The ITUM Library successfully conducted the Launch of the Digital Library Bookshelf on 23 October 2026 at the ITUM Library, marking a significant milestone in the Library's ongoing efforts to enhance access to digital information resources and support teaching, learning, and research within the institution.
The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of academic staff, administrative staff, non-academic staff, and students, demonstrating the collective commitment of the ITUM community to fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, lifelong learning, and academic excellence.
The programme was graced by Ms. Clare Sears, Country Director of the British Council, and Major General (Rtd.) S. K. Thirunavukarasu, Director of ITUM, together with Ms. Shiroma Benaragama, Library and Information Services Manager of the British Council. The event featured addresses by the distinguished guests, followed by the official launch of the Digital Library Bookshelf and a demonstration on accessing the platform through QR code technology.
A special feature of the event was the certificate awarding ceremony for the ITUM Library Creative Writing Competition, which was held in parallel with the launch programme. Certificates were awarded to the winners and participants by Ms. Clare Sears, Country Director, British Council Sri Lanka, in recognition of their literary talent, creativity, and contribution to promoting reading and creative expression among students.
The event proved to be both insightful and inspiring, providing participants with valuable exposure to digital learning resources while celebrating student achievement. The successful launch of the Digital Library Bookshelf, together with the recognition of young writers through the Creative Writing Competition, made the occasion a memorable milestone for the ITUM Library.
The ITUM Library extends its sincere appreciation to all distinguished guests, staff members, and students whose participation contributed to the success of this significant event. Through initiatives such as these, the Library continues to strengthen its role as a dynamic centre for learning, innovation, and intellectual engagement within the ITUM community.
