The Library of the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM), successfully conducted an awareness session on the Smart Library, Stocktaking, Auditing and Shelving Assistant (SLASA) Toolkit on 7 October 2026 at the ITUM Library.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Harsha Balasooriya, Senior Assistant Librarian of the Open University of Sri Lanka and the developer of the SLASA Toolkit. The programme aimed to introduce library staff to the features and practical applications of the toolkit in enhancing library operations, particularly in the areas of stock verification, shelf management, auditing, and collection maintenance.
During the session, participants were provided with a comprehensive overview of the SLASA Toolkit and its role in supporting modern library management practices. The facilitator demonstrated how the software can streamline stocktaking procedures, improve the accuracy of shelf auditing, assist in identifying misplaced items, and contribute to more efficient collection management.
The interactive programme enabled staff members to gain hands-on exposure to the system and discuss practical challenges associated with stocktaking and shelving activities. The session highlighted the potential of technology-driven solutions to improve operational efficiency and accuracy in academic libraries.
