In a landmark moment for ITUM, the long-awaited National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) Insurance Scheme for staff members has been officially established. On December 31, 2024, Major General (Retired) Shantha Kumar Thirunavukarasu, Director of ITUM, along with Ms. Amali Weerakoon, Honorary President; Mr. Ruwan Sandamal, Honorary Secretary; Mr. Ushan Budhdhika, Honorary Vice President; and Mr. Manoj Kannangara and Mr. Dhammika Lakmal, Executive Committee members, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NITF at the Director’s Office. This momentous occasion was honored by the presence of Mr. Nuwan Dissanayake, Assistant Manager - Marketing, along with Ms. Sajani Iddagoda and Mr. Irosha Madushan, representatives from NITF’s Marketing Department.
The establishment of this much-needed insurance scheme was made possible through the successful staging of the renowned drama A Day in July 2019, a visionary fundraising initiative led by Ms. Amali Weerakoon and the ITUM Staff Welfare Executive Committee. The overwhelming support from sponsors, the talented cast and crew, and the enthusiastic audience all contributed to securing the financial foundation for this initiative. Ms. Amali Weerakoon and the Executive Committee extend their profound and heartfelt gratitude to those who made this dream a reality.
This remarkable accomplishment stands as the crowning achievement of the ITUM Staff Welfare Executive Committee for the 2023/2024 tenure, reflecting their unwavering commitment and dedication to the well-being of all ITUM staff members. Ms. Amali Weerakoon and the Executive Committee also extend their profound gratitude to the Director of ITUM, whose invaluable guidance and steadfast support were instrumental in bringing this vision to life. Additionally, heartfelt appreciation is extended to everyone who played a role in realizing this long-cherished goal, ensuring a future of enhanced security and well-being for the ITUM staff.
