
The GridX STEM Motorsport Challenge 2025, Sri Lanka’s first-ever STEM-based motorsport competition, concluded with a day of groundbreaking innovation, intense competition, and inspiration — marking a historic milestone for the nation’s youth and education sector. The event was organized by Jorgina Wijewardana and JW Networks.
Making history at this inaugural event, the Vanguard Racing Team from the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM) emerged as the overall champions by winning the Fastest Car category. This remarkable achievement not only crowned them as the first-ever champions of GridX but also showcased their ability to triumph over fierce competition from more than 20 teams representing state and private universities across Sri Lanka.
With a record-breaking lap time of 1.117434 seconds, the winning team was led by Pramud Wanniarachchi, alongside Lakmina Sandesh, Chanuka Jayasooriya, Nethmika Pasandul, Ravindu Rasanjana, and Sandunika Nethmini.
Vanguard Racing’s victory will forever be remembered as a defining moment in Sri Lanka’s journey of uniting motorsport, education, and innovation.
