The Semester II students of the Textile, Chemical and Polymer, Civil Engineering Technology, and Maritime Studies Divisions of the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM), successfully organized the third edition of the ‘EMPREZA’ leadership event series ‘EMPREZA- 2025’ on 24th of October 2025 at the university premises.
Conducted as the final project for the IS1205 Sports Studies module, the event served as a vibrant platform for students to apply theoretical knowledge through experiential learning. ‘EMPREZA 2025’ aimed to cultivate essential leadership qualities such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and strategic thinking preparing students to thrive in both academic and professional environments.
Throughout the day, students participated in a series of physical, intellectual, and team-based challenges designed to test their endurance, creativity, and leadership potential. The competition fostered an atmosphere of unity, discipline, and friendly rivalry among the divisions.
After an eventful series of activities, team ‘Pathfinders’ claimed the championship title, followed by ‘Code Champ’ as the 1st runner-up and ‘Trailblazers’ as the 2nd runner-up. Their enthusiasm and dedication reflected the true spirit of leadership and collaboration that EMPREZA continues to inspire.
The event was graced by Dr. (Mrs.) M. C. W. Somarathne, Acting Director of ITUM, whose presence and words of encouragement motivated students to take bold steps toward leadership and personal growth along with Heads of Divisions, academic staff, and non-academic staff members, who extended their support to the organizing teams.
Heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. (Mrs.) D.D.G.A.D.S. Saparamadu, Head of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies for her continuous guidance and encouragement. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Ms. Shalini Dissanayake, Lecturer in charge of Sports Studies, with the assistance of sports instructors Ms. H.A.N.A.K. Attipola, Mr. R.M.D.L. Rajasinhe, Mr. S.M. Safraan, Mr. Champika Pregeeth, and all the academic and non-academic staff of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, whose mentorship was instrumental in its success.
The successful execution of ‘EMPREZA 2025’ once again showcased the creativity, commitment, and leadership potential of ITUM students. Beyond being a competition, it was a journey of teamwork, learning, and inspiration empowering future leaders to rise with confidence and purpose.
