The inauguration ceremony for the 2024/2025 intake of students of the National Diploma in Technology (NDT) program at the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM) was held on 26th January 2026 at the Dr. T.A.G. Gunasekara Multifunctional Hall, ITUM.
The Rector Sri-Palee Campus, Professor Prathibha Mahanamahewa; the Director of the Institute, Major General (Retd.) S. K. Thirunavukarusu; the President of the Institute of Incorporated Engineers Sri Lanka, Eng. Ananda Gunawardena; members of the Board of Management of ITUM; the Deputy Registrar of ITUM; the President of the NDT Alumni Association, Mr. Prabath Rathnayake; Heads of the Academic Divisions and members of the academic staff; Heads of the Administrative Divisions, members of the non-academic staff of ITUM; and the students of the new intake attended the ceremony.
Mrs. Mangalika Kannangara, Chairperson of the Inauguration and Orientation Committee, delivered a heartfelt welcome address, warmly greeting the students and officially welcoming them to the Institute. Major General (Retd.) S. K. Thirunavukarusu, Director of ITUM, expressed his confidence that the students would create meaningful and lasting memories during their time at the Institute. He reminded the students that their actions today would shape their future and encouraged them to make the best use of their time at the institute.
Professor Prathibha Mahanamahewa delivered an interactive and informative speech titled “Responsible University Student”, in accordance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court Order on SCRF Application No. 216/2020.
An orientation program was conducted from 27th to 30th January 2026, comprising a range of activities aimed at facilitating a smooth and enriching transition to university life.
