The Information Technology Division of Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa successfully organized an industry awareness workshop for NDT 2023/2024 batch students (Semester III) on Thursday, 21st May 2026, from 1:15 PM to 3:15 PM at the U1 213 Lab. The session was conducted by Mr. Bihan de Silva, a Senior Software Engineer at Creately, who has more than five years of experience in the software engineering industry.
The workshop aimed to provide students with practical knowledge about the Sri Lankan IT industry, current job market trends, career opportunities, and the impact of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. During the session, the resource person shared his industry experience working with both small engineering teams and large-scale software companies, while also discussing the challenges and lessons learned throughout his professional journey.
Several important areas were covered, including software engineering career paths, QA engineering, networking, cloud computing, project development, interview preparation, LinkedIn and GitHub profile building, communication skills, and the importance of maintaining strong technical fundamentals. The session also focused on developing the correct mindset for a successful IT career by encouraging students to continuously learn, build projects, improve problem-solving abilities, and adapt to industry changes.
The workshop further addressed student concerns regarding job security, the future of software engineering in the era of AI, and balancing academics with industry skill development. An interactive Q&A session was conducted at the end, where students actively engaged with the resource person and clarified their career-related questions. Overall, the workshop was highly informative and beneficial in preparing students for their future careers in the technology industry.
