The 8th annual research symposium of the Institute of Technology University of Moratuwa was held virtually on 29th September 2021 under the theme ‘Broadening Horizons”, amidst a gathering of researchers, academics and other distinguished invitees.
Dr. Srimala Perera, the Head of the Research Unit of ITUM said that this year the ITUM research Unit has opened its doors for researchers from diverse backgrounds to present their research findings at the ITUM research symposium and thanked everyone who had contributed to its success.
The Director of the ITUM, Major General (Retd.) S. K. Thirunavukarasu in his address noted that steps taken to invite researchers from other universities and higher educational institutes and the industry would pave the way for new academic staff members as well as students of the ITUM to develop an enthusiasm for research.
The keynote address was given by Prof. Ajith de Alwis, the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, university of Moratuwa who stressed the importance of ‘research outcome’ over ‘research output’ and explained the advantage of learning from nature to address engineering related research problems.
Dr. Kalpana Galappaththi the Head of the Division of Information Technology of the ITUM delivered a special speech on Cyber Physical Social Systems, adding value to the inaugural session of the symposium.
This year, the research papers were presented under the five tracks of Education Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Polymer Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology and Information Technology.
