ITUM students participated at the INCO industrial exhibition and trade fair held on 13th, 14th and 15th January 2023 at the BMICH. Students of 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 batches successfully showcased their innovations and creativity by presenting exhibits and designing the front panel of the stall assigned to them at the BMICH.

Among many innovations presented at the exhibition, an internal panel representing each technology division of ITUM were adjudged first, second and third places. Evaluation of these innovations was conducted under six major criteria which included originality of the invention, correct use of principles, theories and design concepts, optimum utilization of material / equipment and craftmanship, use of sustainable concepts and environmentally friendly materials, energy efficient methods used, and the functionality and commercial viability of the final finished product.

Students from the Division of Textile and Clothing Technology successfully designed a convertible item of clothing, a natural dyed top for women with shoulder / upper-arm disabilities and a biodegradable yarn prepared with Lasia Spinosa (L) Thwaites (Kohila) which attracted the attention of many industrialists.

Students from the Division of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology presented a Smart Bus Tracking System (SBTS), a cost-effective way to track down our day-to-day bus transport service by using a GPS, GMS module, Arduino board and a CNC module platform which had its own common connection point and modules that can be used to convert any CNC machine to a multifunctional CNC machine.    Another student group from the same Division successfully developed an IOT based smart wireless switch for home and industry application.

Students of the Division of Mechanical Engineering Technology innovated and presented a multi-purpose wheel chair which included additional features of height adjustment, a stretcher facility and commode accessibility, as a low-cost solution.

All the innovations attracted the attention of the industry and the general public alike, leading to some initiations of collaboration with the industry for the second phase of development of some of the innovations.

INCO was a major platform for the students to present their innovations and ITUM is thankful for the INCO organizing committee of IIESL for giving ITUM students the opportunity to showcase their talents. Also, the INCO organizing committee of ITUM appreciates the support and assistance given by the Director and all the Academic Divisions of ITUM throughout the event. We congratulate all the student innovators of ITUM for exhibiting new ideas which can be adopted by the industry thus contributing to the development of our motherland.
