With the dawn of spring, fresh hopes and aspirations brew in the minds of all, the young and the old. Similarly, soon after a new batch of students join the NDT Chain of Gold, the NDT New Year celebrations too begin. The event, which is organized by the freshers, create a village extravaganza within the university. Boys dressed in sarongs and shirts, and girls dressed in colorful frocks, bring new light to the campus.
The festival is organized with an abundance of fun games, folk songs, and dances organized with the participation of all Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim students, irrespective of race or creed. The most exciting events are the New Year drama and the climbing of the greasy pole.
This year the event was postponed due to the Easter attack, but took place on 7th July 2019 as “Ran Hiru Abhiman 2019” with the participation of senior NDT students, past NDT students, ITUM staff and the undergraduates of the University of Moratuwa.
