Career Fair - 2022 organized by the Industrial Training, Career Guidance, and Post Diploma Education Centre of ITUM is scheduled to be held from 28th to 2nd December 2022 on the theme “Explore Potential Career Paths’’. The event was sponsored by MAS Holdings and co-sponsored by the NDT Alumni Association, ATG Lanka Private Ltd., and Hirdaramani Industries.

This momentous event commenced with a one-day student development programme conducted by the Staff Student Development Unit (SSDU) for the second year students of ITUM. Giving opening remarks, the Director of ITUM, Major General (Retired) S.K. Thirunavukarasu RSP VSV USP welcomed the audience and highlighted the importance of hosting a Career Fair. Further, he mentioned that this initial step will be instrumental in strengthening the connection between ITUM and the industry in diverse ways.

The programme commenced with a session on “Personal Grooming and Stepping to the Industry” conducted by Mr.Mangala Jayasinghe , the Managing Director of THK Electrical Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, and ICS TEAM (Pvt) (Ltd). In his session, he elucidated the effectiveness of enhancing soft skills and personality traits to secure good job opportunities in the industry. Ms. Deepthi Perera, the Director of THK Electrical Engineering (PVT) Ltd., and ICS TEAM Pvt. Ltd. educated the audience on the importance of personal grooming in order to creating a positive first impression at workplace. This session was followed by a brief account of the history of the NDT program conducted by the president of the NDT Alumni Association, Mr. E.P. Rukman Chaminda. He also highlighted the current challenges faced by NDT diploma and emphasized that in order to be industry ready upon graduation an NDT Diploma holder requires to sharpen a range of skills including communication skills, self- discipline, and English language fluency.

Further, the President of IIESL, Eng. (Mrs) Pushpa Rani Jinadasa, made students aware of the procedure for obtaining IIESL membership in the afternoon session. Also, an interesting panel discussion on the topic ‘’ Spin-off, Tech startups and Entrepreneurship” was conducted with the participation of three successful entrepreneurs. Mr. Heminda Jayaweera, the Director of Effective Solutions (Pvt) Ltd. Japan and UK, Vibhava Solutions (Pvt) Ltd. and Ceylon Graphene Technologies, Dr. Rangika De Silva, the Director, Scientific Research and Innovations at CodeGenInternational and Mr. Vikum Rajapakse, Co-founder and Managing Director, Kantale (Pvt) shared their experiences and put the students in the picture about the pathway to becoming a successful entrepreneur. The session was moderated by Dr. (Ms.) Nadeeka Tissera, Senior Lecturer attached to the Division of Textile and Clothing Technology.
