The Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM), proudly hosted a memorable Felicitation Ceremony on June 19th, 2025, at the T.A.G. Gunasekara Multifunctional Hall, in recognition of the outstanding achievements of ITUM students who showcased exceptional athleticism and commitment during the Inter-University Games 2024.
Across a variety of competitive disciplines, including team and individual sports like rugby, cricket, football, volleyball, athletics, taekwondo, kabaddi, basketball, Elle, carrom, wrestling, baseball, road races, and beach volleyball, this unique event honored the students' unwavering commitment and sportsmanship. Their outstanding performances brought distinction to ITUM.
The felicitation brought together athletes from the 2022/23 and 2021/22 academic years, along with special appreciation awardees from the 2020/21 academic year, acknowledging their valuable contributions and efforts throughout the tournament season. The event was not only a moment of recognition but also a strong reminder of how sports promote leadership and resilience among students.
The ceremony was honored by several distinguished guests, whose presence added prestige to the event. Mr. G.L. Wijesooriya, Acting Director of the Physical Education Division at the University of Moratuwa, and Mr. K.R.D.C. Rathnamudali, Secretary of the National Sports Council and Consultant to the Physical Education Division at the University of Moratuwa attended as Special Guests, offering words of encouragement and appreciation for the athletes.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Major General (Rtd.) S. K. Thirunavukarasu RSP VSV USP, Director of ITUM, along with academic and administrative heads, physical education instructors from the University of Moratuwa. Their collective support underscored the institute’s strong commitment to nurturing sporting excellence alongside academic achievement.
A special note of appreciation is extended to Dr. (Mrs.) D.D.G.A.D.S. Saparamadu, Head of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, and Ms. J.A.S.D. Bandara, Lecturer in Charge of Sports Studies, whose steadfast guidance and encouragement played a pivotal role in the success of the program. The smooth coordination and execution of the event were made possible through the dedicated efforts of Mr. M.A.D.C.N. Prageeth and Mr. M.S.M. Safran, Physical Education Instructors at ITUM, along with Mr. R.M.D.L. Rajasingha and Ms. H.A.N.A.K. Attipola, Academic Instructors in Sports Studies.
The evening was not just a celebration of medals and accolades, but a heartfelt tribute to every student-athlete who represented ITUM with pride and passion. Their achievements continue to inspire the entire ITUM community and set a powerful example for future generations of students.
