The programme was organized under the immense guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) P.B.T.K. Nipuni Herath, Ms. Dureksha Gayani, Ms. D. Rangana Dissanayake, and Ms. Lakshani Jayathilake.
Film appreciation serves as a meaningful approach to understanding and exploring the Aesthetic dimensions of various art forms, including dance, music, drama, and visual arts. The session aimed to enhance students’ ability to recognize and interpret the deeper artistic elements of cinema, encouraging them to move beyond entertainment and appreciate the creative processes behind storytelling, visual composition, music, direction, and performance.
The screening of “The Reader”, a critically acclaimed drama that explores profound themes such as morality, memory, justice, guilt, and human relationships, provided an excellent foundation for intellectual engagement and aesthetic exploration. The appreciation session that followed created an interactive platform where students shared their perspectives, and engaged in meaningful discussions with the guest speaker.
Through this initiative, students were encouraged to develop critical thinking, cultural awareness, creativity, and a deeper understanding of interdisciplinary connections between different forms of artistic expression.
