ITUM Sports Meet 2026  - Uniting Strength, Passion, and Sportsmanship 

The Annual Sports Meet 2026 of the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM) was successfully held as part of the Sports Studies module (IS1205), bringing together students in a celebration of unity, teamwork, passion and sportsmanship. Organized by Semester 1 students, the event reflected dedication, collaboration, and strong organizational skills.

The opening ceremony was held on 6th May 2026 at the university playground, officially launching an exciting week of competition among Draghar, Phoenix, Horus, and Griffin. Students represented their respective houses enthusiastically and participated in a range of sporting events including Netball, Badminton, Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Athletics.

The competitions were conducted over several days, concluding with the athletics finals and the closing ceremony on 12th May 2026 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium. The final day created a cheerful environment filled with excitement, energetic performances and memorable moments shared among students, staff and supporters. The colorful performances of the Mahinda Rajapaksha College western band further enhanced the energetic environment of the ITUM Sport Meet 2026. 

The closing ceremony was graced by Eng. Nalinda Kurukulasooriya, CEO of LAUGFS Gas PLC, who attended as the Chief Guest. His heartfelt and inspiring speech delivered valuable messages of motivation and encouragement, emphasizing determination, perseverance, and the value of the NDT journey. His words created a strong impact and served as inspiration for students to pursue their goals with confidence and commitment.

The event was also honored by the presence of Major General (Retd.) S. K. Thirunavukarasu (RSP VSV USP), the Director of ITUM, and Mr. K.R.D.C. Rathnamudali, consultant to the Physical Education Division of the University of Moratuwa and Ms. D. Sewvandi Illangasinghe, Senior Manager of BOC Homagama branch.

 Special appreciation is extended to Bank of Ceylon (BOC) for their generous sponsorship. Sincere thanks goes to Dr. (Mrs.) P.B.T.K. Premarathna for her guidance and encouragement, and to Ms. Shalini Bandara, Lecturer-in-Charge of Sport Studies, sports instructors, Mr. R.M.D.L. Rajasinghe, Ms. R.G.S.K. Weerasinghe, Mr. M.A.D.C.N. Prageeth, and Mr. M.S.M. Safraan. A special thanks extended to the Chairperson of the Sports Meet Coordinating Committee, Mr. Subhaga Bandara, together with his committee members, and the academic and nonacademic staff of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, whose dedication and support played a vital role in the success of the event. 

After days of intense competition, Phoenix emerged as the Overall Champions, while Horus secured the 1st Runner-up position and Draghar became the 2nd Runner-up.

Marking its 4th consecutive year, ITUM Sports Meet 2026 successfully strengthened the spirit of leadership, participation, and sportsmanship within the ITUM community. The institute extends sincere appreciation to everyone whose dedication and contribution made this event a remarkable success.
